A step-by-step course to character animation with After Effects
 
Made for Animators
We’ve designed this course to be tailored specifically for aspiring animators and motion graphics artists, or professional animators transitioning from a different program. After Effects is simple to learn, but hard to master. I’ve been using After Effects almost daily for the past decade. I’ve done everything from animated logos, animated web series, to compositing and visual effects. This course is a great place to start your path to a career in animation.

What will you learn?

Interface
We’ll start by going over the After Effects interface and understand how to work with different layouts, compositions and how to select and manipulate layers.
Basic Tools
We’ll go over different animation tools and methods. We’ll cover keyframing, interpolation types, using the graph editor, working with different layer types, precomps, mattes, and shape layers.
Logo Animation
After covering the basics, we’ll jump into logo animation, and go over animating 3 different logos in After Effects, as well as one 3D logo using Cinema4D Lite.
Rig a Character
We’ll create and rig an entire character using DUIK Bassel – a free easy-to-use plugin. We’ll cover body and facial riggings, as well as lip syncing techniques.
Animating a Shot
After the character is ready for animation we’ll create a scene, learn how to manipulate cameras and create depth with 3D layers. We’ll then insert our rigged character to the scene and animate a shot from start to finish, including lip syncing to audio. We’ll then learn how to render and export our animation.
Project Pipeline
We’ll go over how to approach a larger scale project, both for clients and for your own work, including planning and delivering the final assets.

We’ve brought an amazing 2D animator to take you through this amazing journey, and I truly believe he created one of the best Moho animation courses out there.
What will you learn?
Interface
We’ll start by going over the Moho interface, learning about setting up a Moho project, some of the key panels, different types of layers, and the animation timeline.
Drawing Tools
Before getting into animation, we’ll learn how to use the vector drawing tools in Moho. We’ll cover freehand drawing, gradients and masks.
Animation Tools
We’ll spend a decent amount of time covering different animation tools and methods. We’ll learn about keyframes, easing types, using motion graphs and even different types of bones.
Rigging a Character
We’ll rig a complete character from scratch. We’ll import the artwork for the character and construct an entire bone system that can be manipulated for animation. That includes character turns, facial controls and lip syncing switches.
Animating a Scene
When our character is ready for animation, we’ll set up our scene. We’ll sketch the key poses with hand drawn animation, then bring in a 3D model for the environment and animate our prepared Moho rig until we have a completed animated shot.
Exporting & Effects
When our animation is ready, we’ll learn how to refine the look of our scene by adding particle effects, depth of field, and camera motion. We’ll then export our scene from Moho to get our final video output.

Storyboarding Process
Jumping right into the action, we’ll learn the storyboard pipelines and structure, and start making one ourselves. We’ll see how to turn a script into thumbnails into rough boards into clean boards, and even how to pitch your storyboard and create an animatic.
Storyboarding with Photoshop
We’ll learn how use the storyboard template included in the course, as well as how to setup one for ourselves. We’ll go over drawing, exporting and creating an animatic from your boards.
Storyboarding with SketchUp
We’ll learn how to create quick 3D scenes and use a 3D camera to create shots for our storyboard using the free 3D program SketchUp.
Toon Boom Storyboard Pro
Included in this course is an in-depth mini course on Storyboard Pro, one of the most advanced storyboarding programs. We’ll learn how to use this program from start to finish, and create a professional-grade storyboard and animatic.
